Doctors And Their White Coats – The Dilemma

The white coat has been an icon in the medical field for almost 200 years, originally representing life and hope. Such a strong symbol it is, that medical students often wont see themselves transformed into a doctor until they actually don the coat, and yet, it is not as popular as it used to be. 2007 saw England ban the white coat. As part of infection control doctors in England must now wear a shirt with the sleeves ending before their elbows without jewellery or a necktie. Ironically, the white coats were believed to be spreading infections due to infrequent washes.
